Blue Cross Blue Shield Massachusetts

eGistics archive and workflow enable BCBS Mass. to archive 250,000 "Provider Requests for Payment" documents per month.  Each document is an 8.5" x 11" form. The documents are scanned by BCBS into the archive for indexing, processing and long term archiving.

eGistics' workflow enables each payment request to be electronically routed within BCBS and tracked during a review and approval process.  A single Provider Payment Request may need multiple concurrent reviews by different individuals, and the workflow enables the routing of multiple electronic copies of a single request to various departments.

Once a request has been reviewed and approved, the approval code and payment amount are transferred to the BCBS accounts payable system for processing. The indexed electronic image of the Provider Payment Request and approval detail are stored in the permanent archive for future retrieval.

eGistics' also archives indexed Provider Credentialing documents.  During the review and approval of Provider Payment Requests, reviewers are able to display credential documents, which enables BCBS to quickly verify physician eligibility for payment. Reviewers can also update credential records.  Immediate access to and  verification of valid physician credentials is critical in order to approve Provider Payment Requests.
